How the weld filler consumption calculator works
Area in mm² times length in metres divided by one million gives deposited m³. Multiply by density for kilograms. Divide deposited mass by deposition efficiency, then add the separate additional waste allowance.
Required filler mass divided by pack mass rounds upward to whole packs. Purchased surplus is inventory. Avoid counting the same loss through both deposition efficiency and extra waste.
The cross-section must come from a qualified drawing or procedure. No joint design, structural weld size, filler selection, welding setting, strength or suitability is determined by this quantity calculation.
Worked example
A 25-mm² area over 10 m at 7,850 kg/m³ deposits 1.9625 kg. At 90% deposition efficiency plus 10% extra waste, allowance is about 2.3986 kg, requiring three 1-kg packs at $8, or $24. Doubling length needs five packs.
