How the welding time & cost calculator works
Arc time is length divided by entered travel rate. Divide by arc-on fraction, convert to hours and add one setup allowance for elapsed crew time. Multiply by the combined crew hourly value for labor cost.
Gas volume is arc minutes times the entered gas-flow factor; filler mass is entered independently. Labor, filler and gas charges round separately to cents before totaling. Zero length suppresses the whole event.
Gas covers arc-on flow only; pre/post flow and leakage need a separate included allowance. No safe welding procedure, travel rate, gas flow, equipment setup or ventilation is recommended.
Worked example
Ten metres at 0.3 m/min is 33.333 arc minutes. At 25% arc-on plus 0.5 setup hour, labor is 2.7222 hours, worth $136.11 at $50/h. Add $16 filler and $6.67 gas for $158.78. At $60/h, total becomes $186.
