How the welding shielding-gas quantity calculator works
Arc gas volume is flow litres per minute times arc minutes per weld times weld count. Pre/post gas adds flow times combined seconds divided by 60 times the same weld count. Both gas-on components use the same entered flow.
Multiply their sum by one plus the additional allowance percentage. Required cylinders are the ceiling of that volume divided by usable free-gas litres per cylinder. Whole-cylinder cost differs from the prorated value of the modeled consumed volume. Zero required gas produces no cylinder purchase.
Flow and cylinder quantity must use compatible free-gas reference conditions. This is consumable budgeting, not a pressure conversion, flow recommendation, gas-selection guide, welding procedure, ventilation design or cylinder-handling instruction. Product suitability and safe work must be established elsewhere.
Worked example
At an entered 15 L/min, twenty four-minute welds use 1,200 L during arc time. Ten combined pre/post seconds per weld add 50 L. A 10% additional allowance gives 1,375 L total. A 2,000 L usable cylinder requires one refill at $100, while prorated consumed-gas value is $68.75.
