How the selected-population seeding rate calculator works
Bulk seed count per acre = your target plants per acre ÷ [germination fraction × (1 − post-germination stand-loss fraction)]. Divide by bulk seeds per kilogram for kg/acre, then multiply by acres for total mass. Germination must be positive and stand loss below 100%.
The selected population is an input, not a crop recommendation. Germination and post-germination survival must represent separate losses; avoid duplicating seed-lot viability in the stand-loss input. Seed coating and seed-count basis must match the lot. No planting date, depth, treatment, realized establishment or yield is predicted.
Quantities use the stated units and finite bounded inputs. Whole purchases round up under the documented model; cost components round half-up to cents before totals are summed. Undefined ratios stay unavailable. π and logarithms use normal numeric precision. Display rounding does not alter the entered assumptions.
Worked example
A chosen target of 900,000 plants/acre, 90% germination and 10% post-germination loss requires about 1,111,111 seeds/acre. At an entered 20,000 seeds/kg this is about 55.556 kg/acre, or 555.556 kg for ten acres. A target of 810,000 gives 50 kg/acre.
