How the heat exchanger ua scenario calculator works

Effective UA in kW/K = entered thermal duty in kW ÷ (applicable correction factor × reviewed LMTD in K). LMTD and correction factor must be positive, with correction factor no greater than one. Zero duty gives zero calculated conductance.

The correction factor is supplied, not inferred for an arbitrary multipass arrangement. UA is a conductance product, not a recommended area, overall coefficient, fouling allowance or mechanical design. Match the duty and terminal-state basis before using the ratio.

Quantities use the stated units and finite bounded inputs. Whole purchases round up under the documented model; cost components round half-up to cents before totals are summed. Undefined ratios stay unavailable. π and logarithms use normal numeric precision. Display rounding does not alter the entered assumptions.

Worked example

100 kW divided by 0.8 × 25 K gives 5 kW/K implied UA. Doubling duty to 200 kW at the same entered driving force gives 10 kW/K.
