How the refinery stated-basis yield scenario calculator works

Main-product yield is main output divided by the explicitly entered qualifying input, multiplied by 100. Total stated output is main plus other products; the signed balance is stated output minus qualifying input. A zero qualifying input gives no yield ratio.

The chosen mass or reference-volume unit must be consistent across every quantity. The denominator and adjustments are supplied rather than inferred from an official product definition. Volume processing gain means product volume need not total 100%. Missing feedstocks, hydrogen, inventory and uncounted products can affect a mass balance. This is not a refinery operating recommendation or automatic EIA reporting engine.

Quantities use the stated units and finite bounded inputs. Whole purchases round up under the documented model; cost components round half-up to cents before totals are summed. Undefined ratios stay unavailable. π and logarithms use normal numeric precision. Display rounding does not alter the entered assumptions.

Worked example

An entered qualifying input of 100 units and main output of 40 gives 40% stated-basis yield. With 55 other output units, the stated balance is −5. Changing main output to 50 gives 50% and a +5 balance; neither is silently capped.
