How the freight quote comparison calculator works
Freight subtotal is the base charge plus pallets times charge per pallet. Fuel surcharge is that subtotal times the entered fuel percentage. Add accessorial charges after fuel to get the modeled shipment total.
Every schedule uses the same shipment and unchanged terms as pallet count varies. Totals extend precise inputs before rounding half-up to cents. The quote difference compares the rounded totals rather than implying that an unentered minimum or surcharge is included.
Confirm which charges the carrier fuel percentage actually applies to and enter the quote accordingly. The calculation does not fetch live rates, freight class, dimensions, minimum charges, taxes, insurance or transit guarantees. Compare route, service level, cargo and liability terms separately before selecting a carrier.
Worked example
For four pallets, Quote A has $150 base plus $60 per pallet: $390 freight. Add 20% fuel and $100 accessorials to reach $568. Quote B has $100 base plus $80 per pallet: $420 freight. Add 15% fuel and $50 accessorials to reach $533. B is $35 lower on these entered terms.
