How the sell wet grain vs dry & sell calculator works
Theoretical dry tonnes equal wet tonnes times (100 − wet moisture)/(100 − dry moisture), conserving dry matter. Wet receipts use original wet mass times price less deductions and hauling.
Dry receipts price the theoretical dried mass after its per-dry-tonne hauling allowance, then subtract drying cost based on original wet mass. Each scenario rounds once to cents and the signed difference remains visible.
Water-only shrink excludes handling, spoiled grain, quality changes and dry-matter loss. Prices, targets and buyer terms are entered rather than forecast or recommended. Avoid deducting a discount already embedded in a quoted net price.
Worked example
One hundred wet tonnes at 20% reduced to 15% moisture gives 94.117647 theoretical dried tonnes. Wet price $180 less $10 deductions and $5 hauling yields $16,500. Dry price $200 less $5 hauling, minus $15/wet tonne drying, gives $16,852.94. A $210 dry price gives $17,794.12.
