How the grain buyer net price calculator works
For each buyer, subtract per-tonne hauling and other per-tonne deductions from the entered gross bid. Multiply by the same delivered tonnes, then subtract one fixed shipment fee. Net settlement rounds half-up to cents before comparing buyers.
Net price per tonne divides the rounded settlement by positive delivered mass. A zero shipment suppresses the fixed fee and other charges and makes per-tonne metrics unavailable. Costs can exceed the bid, so negative settlements remain visible.
A common mass, moisture, grade, currency and payment basis is essential. Include relevant drying and shrink deductions consistently before this comparison; no grain-market quote, quality adjustment, storage forecast, taxes or payment risk is retrieved. Iowa State provides the buyer-charge context, not the illustrative prices.
Worked example
For 20 tonnes, A’s $240 bid less $12 hauling and $5 other deduction, then a $40 fee, yields $4,420 or $221/t. B’s $250 bid less $20 hauling and $8 deduction yields $4,440 or $222/t, $20 more. If B hauling is $15/t, B nets $4,540.
