How the overall equipment effectiveness calculator works
Use one defined process and observation period. Planned production time excludes intervals when there was no intention to produce; stop time is measured inside that planned period. Run time = planned minutes − stop minutes. Stop time cannot exceed planned time. Total and first-pass good production are whole counts, and good count cannot exceed total count.
Availability = run time ÷ planned time. Performance = ideal cycle seconds × total count ÷ 60 ÷ run minutes. Quality = first-pass good count ÷ total count. OEE = availability × performance × quality, equivalently ideal cycle seconds × good count ÷ 60 ÷ planned minutes. The displayed factors are percentages.
The ideal cycle is the process’s best achievable per-unit cycle, not its observed average. Seconds and minutes are converted before division. If ideal time for all units exceeds actual run time, the model rejects the entries rather than clamping performance to 100%. Positive production counts also require positive run time.
With zero planned time and zero production, all percentage factors are undefined and shown as dashes. With planned time but no production, OEE is zero; quality is undefined, and performance is zero only when run time is positive. A fully stopped period has undefined performance. No universal good/bad benchmark or comparison between unlike processes is implied.
Worked example
For 480 planned minutes, 60 stop minutes, a 30-second ideal cycle, 700 total units and 665 first-pass good units, run time is 420 minutes. Availability is 87.5%; performance is 350 ÷ 420 = 83.333333%; quality is 665 ÷ 700 = 95%. Fully productive good-unit time is 332.5 minutes, so OEE is 332.5 ÷ 480 = 69.270833%. Percentages are rounded only for display.
