How the farm machine field capacity calculator works

Theoretical capacity in hectares per hour equals width in metres times travel speed in kilometres per hour divided by 10. This follows from converting kilometres to metres and 10,000 square metres to one hectare.

Effective field capacity multiplies theoretical capacity by entered field efficiency. Acres per hour convert effective hectares using exactly 4,046.8564224 square metres per acre. Zero width, speed or efficiency produces zero effective capacity.

Efficiency covers in-field overlap, turns and delays, not automatically daily service, road travel or major repairs. Inputs are not operating recommendations, and the model does not evaluate implement suitability, soil, crop condition, power or weather. Use observed field records when possible.

Worked example

A 6 m implement at 8 km/h has 4.8 ha/h theoretical capacity. At an entered 75% field efficiency, effective capacity is 3.6 ha/h. At 60% efficiency it is 2.88 ha/h. No particular speed or efficiency is being recommended.
