How the equipment electricity cost calculator works
Average input kW = watts per device × number of devices × average power fraction ÷ 1,000. Monthly energy in kWh = average input kW × scheduled hours per day × operating days per month.
Monthly energy charge = kWh × energy rate, rounded half-up to cents. Monthly modeled cost adds the separately rounded additional monthly charge. The annual estimate is twelve identical modeled monthly costs; it does not forecast a calendar year or account for seasonal operation.
A load fraction can represent reduced average power, cycling within an operating window, or a combined estimate of those effects. If measured watts already average the operating cycle, or the entered hours represent actual on-time at the stated input power, use 100% unless a distinct adjustment is justified. Applying the same reduction twice understates energy use.
Kilowatts measure power; kilowatt-hours measure energy over time. Nameplate draw may differ from actual use. This model does not infer motor efficiency or electrical capacity. Demand charges, power-factor charges, time-of-use tariffs, tiers, standby consumption outside the schedule, taxes and seasonal differences are excluded unless separately allowed for in your own entered costs. A whole-site utility standing charge should not be attributed entirely to a device unless that allocation fits your question.
Worked example
Two devices at 1,500 input watts each, averaging 75% of that draw over 8 scheduled hours a day and 22 days a month, use 2.25 kW × 176 hours = 396 kWh. At an illustrative $0.18 per kWh and no additional monthly charge, that is $71.28 for the modeled month, or $855.36 for twelve identical months. The rate and load fraction are examples, not current local tariffs or measured consumption.
