How the boiler blowdown energy scenario calculator works

Thermal energy above the makeup state is blowdown kilograms × (blowdown enthalpy − makeup enthalpy) ÷ 3,600, giving kWh from kJ. Divide that heat by the entered efficiency fraction for a fuel-input equivalent. Extend fuel input at the entered rate for the cost equivalent.

Both enthalpies must be reviewed at the intended states and use the same datum; the blowdown value must be at least makeup value in this heat-loss scope. No blowdown quantity, pressure, chemistry target, safe operating setting or recovery equipment is recommended. This is a measured-stream scenario, not a control model.

Quantities use the stated units and finite bounded inputs. Whole purchases round up under the documented model; cost components round half-up to cents before totals are summed. Undefined ratios stay unavailable. π and logarithms use normal numeric precision. Display rounding does not alter the entered assumptions.

Worked example

1,000 kg with an entered 700 kJ/kg enthalpy rise contains about 194.444 kWh. At 80% efficiency this is 243.056 kWh fuel equivalent. An illustrative 0.08/kWh gives 19.44. Doubling mass gives 38.89 after extending the unrounded energy and rounding once.
