How the drywall sheet quantity calculator works
Net area = total surface area minus deducted openings. The deduction must not exceed total area. Allowance area = net area × (1 + entered allowance percentage / 100). Enter the complete area for one board layer; repeat the run for another layer or sheet size.
Area per sheet = sheet length × sheet width in metres. Whole sheets to buy = ceil(allowance area ÷ area per sheet). Sheet length and width must be positive. Purchased area is the whole sheet count multiplied by the sheet area.
Material cost = whole sheets × the entered quote per sheet, rounded half-up to cents. Zero net area yields no sheets or cost. The model has no cart minimum, transport fee, tax or labor charge; add those separately when budgeting the installation.
An area calculation does not optimize board layout, seam placement, opening cuts or offcut reuse. Check actual room dimensions, ceiling treatment, board type and system requirements separately. No framing, moisture, fire-resistance or structural specification is inferred. USG’s estimating tools provide manufacturer workflow context.
Worked example
40 m² of surfaces less 4 m² of openings gives 36 m². A 10% allowance gives 39.6 m². Each 2.4 × 1.2 m sheet covers 2.88 m², so 13.75 sheets rounds to 14. At an illustrative 15 each, sheet cost is 210. With no allowance, 12.5 rounds to 13 sheets and 195.
