How the annual vs monthly subscription calculator works

Monthly-plan total is monthly price times expected use months times accounts. Annual total is the complete annual price times accounts even if you expect to stop using the product earlier. The comparison assumes the monthly plan can be canceled after the entered month.

Each plan total rounds half-up to cents before comparing the winner or annual saving. Annual saving is displayed monthly total minus displayed annual total, so negative saving means monthly use costs less. Annual equivalent monthly price divides one annual account price by 12. Continuous equal-cost use months uses the precise annual price divided by monthly price, unavailable when monthly price is zero.

A billing schedule is different from a commitment: an annual contract paid in monthly installments still belongs on the annual side at its complete price. Features, quantities and price stability are held equal. Proration, refunds, financing value, tax and renewal changes are omitted.

Worked example

At $30 monthly or a $300 annual commitment for one account, 12 months of monthly use cost $360 and annual payment costs $300, saving $60. The cost lines meet at 10 months. For six expected months, monthly use costs $180, so the annual commitment costs $120 more.
